Knights, Witches and Murder by RM Schultz

Genre: Fantasy | Thriller | Mystery

BACK OF THE BOOK:

Murders are occurring in a fantastical city by the sea.

For over a year these events have plagued Red Pike’s Landing. And no one has been able to find the killer who takes all the fingernails of their victims and tucks them into bed.

Witnesses are unreliable … but for good reason. Perhaps magic lies at the heart of these deeds and covers the Necromancer’s tracks.

Calec of the Woods is called upon for aid. And Serileen, Calec’s witch lover, must accompany him while harboring a dark secret of her own.

The closer Calec comes to the Necromancer, the faster he must solve this mystery or he and Serileen will become the Necromancer’s next victims.

Knights, Necromancers, and Murder is perfect for fans of The Name of the Wind, Mistborn, and The Mists of Avalon who also enjoy thrillers like The Girl on the Train or The Da Vinci Code. R.M. Schultz is a #1 best-selling fantasy author and has published over a half dozen best-selling novels.

Will Calec forge his own path and discover the cause of these mysterious murders before the kingdom and everything he loves is lost? Strap yourself in, scroll up, and click the READ NOW or BUY NOW button near the top right of this page to join thousands of enthralled readers in finding out what happens when Calec is drawn into the conflict.

REVIEW:

Knights, Necromancers, And Murder is the second book in the Calec of the Woods Mystery Thriller series. Following from book one, Calec is learning more about the ways of the witches of the woods from Serileen who is also his lover.

A traveler from another Kingdom comes in search of Calec to help learn the truth about a series of murders, suspected to be at the hands of a Necromancer.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book and was looking forward to continuing the series and I have not been disappointed. Two books in this series continue to be a great blend of crime and fantasy. In this book, I felt Calecs character grew to feel more human and I love the relationship between Calec and Serileen.

I’m looking forward to book three.

In her search for answers, she finds herself immersed in a web of deceit and revenge that leads her across the country and five years into the past. If you enjoy the suspenseful mysteries by John Grisham, you’ll be captivated by this thrilling story of Sabre’s search for justice.

REVIEW:

What a brilliant opening book to a series. This is my first time reading a crime/thriller story from the point of view of a children’s legal advocate and I wondered how it would play out but this gave a perfect blend of mystery, suspense, and at times very fast-paced.

Sabre is a fascinating character; seeing her develop throughout the book and learning about her past and present made me love her. Questions around her life start to appear as the story progresses and we learn she may be more involved than she realises. This is a series I will continue with.

Genre: Contemporary Fiction | Short Stories

Publisher: Pishukin Press

BACK OF THE BOOK

In this gripping short story collection, Pajalic depicts working-class characters in all their gutsiness and glory. Featuring animals in most stories as a motif for grief and hope, Pajalic alternates between tender stories of survival and the gritty underbelly of Melbourne’s Western suburbs. Even when his characters are shady and flawed, morality and conscience shine through.

Drawing on his own experiences, Pajalic recreates first-hand the reality of coming to Australia as a refugee because of war and persecution. While many of the stories focus on the experience of Bosnian diaspora, it also tells the universal story of the refugee experience exploring homesickness, loss, grief, cultural shock, and making a new home in a landscape completely different to where you come from.

‘Raw, authentic and compelling, these stories of refugees’ generational trauma and pain also honour the resilience and determination of the characters. Bracing and rewarding reading.’ Paddy O’Reilly author of Other Houses

‘Reminiscent of Carver, Pajalic’s stories are sharp, direct and austere. A fascinating read.’ Ennis Cehic author of Sadvertising

‘Like Chekhov who thinks that for a writer nothing should be unclean, Fikret takes us to murky places where English is broken and pit bulls are prized; bodies are ravaged by manual labour and generosity abounds as often as brutality. Humanity there is uncovered, revealing itself to be as instinctual and capable of ferocity and sacrifice as the many animals that populate Fikret’s stories. In Complication Fikret uncovers the origins of violence with unflinching insight and unwavering compassion.’ Lee Kofman author of The Writer Laid Bare

Genre: Fantasy | Thriller | Mystery

Pages: 314

BACK OF THE BOOK:

“Characters as deep and layered as any epic fantasy. Pacing and plot as quick as a thriller mystery. Perfect combination.”—Dan Patterson, Author

In a land where the wolf wind and mists roam like ghosts, the conflicted son of a witch was knighted by the king. Knighted to repay a debt to his father.

His name is Calec.

He alone holds knowledge from both the knighthood and the mysterious witches of the woods.

When the king’s sheep are found lying in the snow, riddled with black rashes and hemorrhagic eyes, Calec is summoned to discover the reason for their deaths. Then, as human victims arise in the city, Calec uncovers an eerie string of clues. He seeks the aid and determination of pious Eristin—his betrothed and niece of the king—but to catch the murderer they must find answers, answers hidden beneath a web of secrets ensnaring the royal family, a witch, an innkeeper, a priest, and a former thief.

And Calec never suspected he’d have to choose between the only two things he’s ever loved.

Knights, Witches, and Murder is perfect for fans of The Name of the Wind, Mistborn, and The Mists of Avalon who also enjoy thrillers like The Girl on the Train or The Da Vinci Code. R.M. Schultz is a #1 best-selling fantasy author and has published over a half dozen best-selling novels.

Will Calec forge his own path and discover the cause of these mysterious murders before the kingdom and everything he loves is lost?

REVIEW:

Knights, Witches, And Murder is the first in the Fantasy: A Calec of the Woods Mystery thriller, and as the title suggests this story mixes fantasy with crime and thriller and I have to say it mixes them very well.

The story follows Calec who is a knight but also has a past with witches. His mother was a witch and for a while Calec lived with them in the woods, learning a lot about their ways. With a winter plague returning to the kingdom, and the witches being blamed, Calec needs to uncover the truth before more innocent people die and an all-out war breaks out with the witches.

I found myself drawn more to Calecs back story in this book and can picture him being drawn to the ways of the witches and druids in future installments of this series and I can’t wait to find out what direction the author takes.
